Empire

As early as in the 1860-70´s there was a reaction on the rococo art style. Under this period, the high ideal and moral, did of course not match with the decadence of the rococo. A new style, the neo classicism with straighter lines emerged.

Neo classicism means that the characteristics of the classical art - the antiques - were brought forward.
The most prominent of the neo classical styles is the Empire style, which has got its name from the Napoleon era, the early 19th century in France.

This style is rather heavy and strict and the straight sides of the bottom part formed as a basket characterize the chandeliers.
